Lake Nakuru and Lake Elementaita are soda lakes located in the Kenyan Great Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru is home to a large group of Flamingos. There are two types of Flamingos in the lake. The lesser Flamingos and Greater Flamingos, of which the lesser is more, i.e. they dominate the greater ones. The animals in Lake Nakuru include hippos, lions, rhinos, buffalo, leopards and around 56 mammal species.
If you are lucky enough you can witness a group of 20 or more Rhinos. This will be a rare one to observe. You will also get a chance to watch some other animals like waterbucks, pythons, Cheetahs, Warthogs, Hyenas, Giraffes, etc.
From the top of the Baboon cliff, you can watch almost the entire lake and its bird species. Not only can you witness the flamingos but also other bird species too. Plovers, duck, Tiff-tailed Maccoa duck, Cape pigeon duck, Eagles, Vultures and other migrant birds come in this list.
You can also get beddings, kitchen and bathroom facilities provided by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), all at a subsidized price.
